On Wednesday, February 16, 2011 Oiada International held a Transatlantic Celebration event to celebrate Black History Month at the National Museum of African Art/Smithsonian Institution in Washington, DC, the W.E.B. Du Bois Memorial Centre for Pan-African Culture in Accra, Ghana, Tuskegee University in Tuskegee, Alabama and The Akoma Ntoso Cultural Center in Newark, NJ via telepresence. The event was viewed worldwide by a telecast made available through Polycom.
The First Lady of Ghana, Her Excellency Mrs. Ernestina Naadu Mills’ was present and her speech encouraged the audiences on both continents. Pastor Marvin L. Winans spoke of his trip to Ghana and his singing of “Together We Stand” epitomized the sentiment of the event. We invite everyone to experience the event through this video and pictorial collage.
